Americas Byways: The San Juan Skyway
Teachers Guide and Timeline Poster
|
The San Juan Skyway, a 236-mile drive, is honored by the United States Department of Transportation as one of only six "All American Roads" in the United States. It is often described as one of the most scenic drives in America, and affords travelers a journey through historycomplete with remnants of ancient cultures such as the Ute cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde.
Share the Wealth
The goal of America's Byways multimedia project is to share the beauty, resources and history of Colorado's diverse landscape and people with Colorado residents and travelers. The project provides travel information and history for the casual reader as well as instructional content for the classroom.
Entertaining and Educational
The printed teacher's guide and timeline poster, along with a companion website, are designed as collateral pieces to the television series, and provide schools with content correlating to state education standards.
Tailored to elementary and middle school children, the teacher's guide and timeline are approved for use in Colorado schools’ curriculum, where local history is typically taught in fourth and fifth grades.
