Interactive TV: ATVEF Transport B Trial
Local and National iTV Content
PBS Life 360 Series
 October 2001

This interactive TV ATVEF Transport B Trial marked the first time PBS developed enhanced television content for all existing ATVEF-compliant platforms. Eight public television stations worked with PBS program and technical producers to create local iTV content for the PBS Life 360 series.

Testing of Interactive TV Equipment and Coding
The trial included testing of iTV encoders and set-top boxes, authoring systems and coding for each platform, and the synchronization of encoded local and national interactive TV elements.

New Systems for National/Local iTV Productions
Production schedules were created to coordinate content development between PBS headquarters and local stations. The local iTV content complemented the national program, and directed viewers to additional information posted on the local station’s website.
