The following three digital illustrations are entries in the International Graphic Design Competition. Our selections are based on the theme "Love Mother Earth", and address some of the technical and design issues pertaining to art for the internet.

One Life
This entry explores the unity of life and visual form. It is created to be viewed at multiple sizes or distances. Seen from a distance, in small, the illustration appears to be a close-up of a woman's eye. In large format the viewer recognizes that the blue iris is a photo of the earth and the flesh tone is a benday pattern of colored dots. Viewed larger or smaller, closer or more distant, the image reveals numerous patterns and associations composed of circular forms. It evokes the sensation of moving through a planetary galaxy. From the vastness of the constellations to the immediacy of eye contact, it's all part of one life. |
